Old Age Pensioners Care Club (K.E.F.H)

History of the club:
- K.E.F.H club is a prototype, open care center day-care project for old age pensioners, which the Municipality has instituted since 1998.
Aims of the project:
- to provide essential services to pensioners, so as to encourage them to actively participate in the community
- to relieve working families from the care of old relatives
- to support old age pensioners, so as to make it easier for them to lead a normal life, in their own homes
- to offer its services five days a week (mornings and afternoons), except on public holidays
Available Services:
Services offered on a daily basis:
- transportation with a municipal bus
- breakfast for all members
- help and supervision of personal hygiene of members
- laundry services
Medical Care:
- weekly walk-in surgery offered by a governemnt doctor and a municipal nurse. The surgery provides: medical examinations, advice on health issues, blood-pressure tests, diabetes tests, arrangements for supply of medication from Nicosia general Hospital, accompanied transportation to the hospital for lab and X-rays tests, information on nutrition by specialists etc.
Activities:
- daily or weekly classes offered by qualified professionalsand volunteers. The classes include: art and craft, pottery, dance, music and exercise. The aim of this servise is to occupy creatively older citizens, while supplying them with new skills.
- a yearly organized trip
- participation in all cultural and social events organized by the Municipality
Entertainment:
- subsidized excursions and visits on a regular basis
- fund-raiser bazaars, where crafts made by our members are sold every Christmas and Easter
- games (e.g. Bingo)
- participation in social and cultural events organized by the Municipality or other groups in the cimmunity
Social Services:
As part of the Social Welfare program, a social worker must:
- provide psychological support to individual members and people who are cared for by the Municiplaity in their homes Psychological, social, and financial problems must be dealt with utter confidentiality, objectivity and compassion.
- operate groups which are concerned with issues, important for old-age pensioners e.g., access to other services, advice on medical care/pensions/benefits/activities etc.
- applies all of the above in accordance with the Social Welfare Policy of the Municipality
- supervice and evaluate the provided services, and work in cooperation with the Social Welfare Committee of the Municipality in order to improve them
Note:
- For all services offered either at KEFH or at home, old-age pensioners pay a rather symbolic amount. All services are offered by permenent and qualified personnel (carers), temporary associate instructors and volunteers.
